How to Add a Google Sitemap to your Blogger Blog

How to Add a Google Sitemap to your Blogger Blog

There exist numerous ways to add a sitemap to your blogger blog. This is true, and in this post I’m going to demonstrate to you more than 3 ways to do just that. Submit sitemap for your blogger blog!!.............

For months I kept wondering how my blogger blog was not receiveing any visits nor getting indexed despite having good keywords and good SEO.

Well, the problem I came to find out was the absence of XML sitemap. An XML sitemap helps search engines discover pages on your site that may have otherwise been missed by search bots. It acts like a registry of all web pages you have on your website and search engines like Bing, Google and Yahoo use them to discover your web pages during regular crawling.

You are going to generate a complete sitemap of your Blogger blog using an online sitemap generator and submit the XML sitemap to Google via robots.txt.

A sitemap should contain a list of all pages on your website though this is not the case with any blog hosted on blogger. Blogger restricts the number of blog posts in the default XML sitemap to 26 most recent blog posts. That might not be a big challenge because the older posts missing in the XML sitemap might have already been cached yet a solution exists where you can generate a complete sitemap.

Generate a Complete Sitemap for your Blogger Blog
You can do this for both regular Blogger blogs using a .blogspot.com url and also the self-hosted Blogger blogs that use a custom domain like bloglikeneverbefore.com.
Here’s what you need to do to expose your blog’s complete site structure to search engines with the help of an XML sitemap.
  1. Go to Sitemap Generator and type the full url of your blogspot blog (or your self-hosted Blogger blog).
  2. Use the Create Sitemap button to create a complete sitemap for your blog. This tool should immediately generate the XML sitemap for you. Copy the entire generated text to you text editor
  3. Next go to blogger dashboard and under Settings – > Search Preferences, and then enable Custom robots.txt option found in the Crawling and Indexing section and Paste the clipboard text here and save your changes.
