Airtel Kenya is Migrating its services to 3G. Airtel Kenya is one of the first mobile companies in Kenya and the second largest mobile company after Safaricom.  Airtel Kenya as a mobile operator in Kenya offers different mobile services including data, mobile money etc. the Airtel Kenya calling rates is standing at shs4 on-net and offnet, while sending an SMS cost shs1 per message.

The Airtel Kenya community Migrated their data network to 3G up from EDGE and 2.5G. 3G network is an acronym for third generation mobile telecommunications. The minimum specification required for a mobile
telecommunication system to be considered technically standardized that is for reliability and speed (data transfer rates) is a peak data rate of at least 200Kbit/s.  


Because of this Migration in service delivery, the end user, that is you and me is expected to gain abundantly due to opportunities presented by this expansion. The 3G bandwidth and location opens doors to applications not previously available to mobile phone users. These applications
include;

  • Mobile TV – this is always a television watched on a handheld device
  • Video on Demand
  • Video Conferencing - Videoconferencing uses audio and video telecommunications to bring people at different sites together. This can be as simple as a conversation between people in private offices (point-to-point) or involve several (multipoint) sites in large rooms at multiple locations. Besides the audio and visual transmission of meeting activities, allied videoconferencing technologies can be used to share documents and display information on whiteboards.
