Mombasa

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya after the capital Nairobi. It is one of the 47 counties and first in the list of counties as prescribed in the First Schedule of 2010 constitution.
The 2009 census indicated the population of about 939,370 of which about half are female. The statistics has usually been carried out by a government agency, The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) after every ten (10) Years since 1969.

Mombasa has a long history that dates back to hundreds of years. Its geographical position as harbour and a center for business made it an exit route for traders from all walks of life especially Arabs, Portuguese, British and Chinese traders of the middle age to present.

Mombasa has been roumoured to be the heart of East African slave trade during the years behind although now it stands as the heart of tourist attraction in the entire Eastern Africa. It is also home to Kilindini Harbour, the Kenyas largest seaport.
